My first 18 years were spent on the cobbled streets of Bolton. I ate a staple Lancashire diet supplemented with everyone’s favourite junk foods. I was partial to a chip barm pea wet, pizza, pie and pasty barm. (We Boltonians put anything in a barm, and barm for your information is a soft, fluffy bread roll). I always had a super active lifestyle and sports made up a big part of my life; if I was not kicking around a football I was playing badminton and hockey competitively for Bolton. Burning so many calories, I could eat anything in sight without gaining weight.
I grew up with strong positive values thanks to my parents. I was taught that anything was possible. I needed to seek knowledge, believe in myself, use my imagination, dream big, work hard and not be afraid of failure. Both then and now, I set my ambitions high and remain my toughest critic.
